Welcome to June and the start of summer!
The weather is really heating up, so staying cool these next few months is a must. Staying hydrated is one major step to navigating the heat and avoiding headaches, muscle cramps, and dizziness. Bringing a water bottle with you on errands and daily outings will help ensure you have water at hand. Consider purchasing a reusable insulated water bottle to keep your water cold and crisp for those scorching days and help the environment at the same time!
Staying out in the sun too long can also cause heat stroke, which is when the body temperature gets too high and can lead to vomiting, loss of consciousness, and nausea. Heat exhaustion occurs when you’re out in the sun and dehydrate, resulting in muscle cramps, tiredness, headaches, and more. To avoid these complications:

In honor of Caribbean-American Heritage Month, the City of Tamarac will celebrate its annual Family Fun Day on Saturday, June 4th, at Water’s Edge Park, 7508 NW 61st Street. Come out between noon and 2:00 p.m. for some delicious food, fun, games, and amazing music, including a live steel drum performance! On behalf of the City, I’m honored to serve as a panelist at the 5th Annual Invest: Greater Fort Lauderdale Launch Conference. We’ll be discussing how to create a stronger, equitable future and upcoming development plans and real estate matters in Broward County. The Juneteenth Freedom Festival is on Saturday, June 18th, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Tamarac Sports Complex, 9901 NW 77th Street. There’ll be a fantastic mix of artists and performers, including Ashanti Cultural Arts and music by the Valerie Tyson Band, as well as vendors, food trucks, and a kid’s area for the young ones to enjoy.
Caribbean-American Heritage Month celebration continues in Tamarac with a Splash Bash on Saturday, June 25th from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Caporella Aquatic Complex, 9300 NW 58th Street. We’ve got fun activities planned for the whole family to enjoy including music, games, and more! Admission is $5 per person. For more information call (954) 597-3660.
The Tamarac North Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce (TNLCC) will hold a Bowling 4 Business Tournament on Wednesday, June 29th, at Sawgrass Lanes, 8501 N. University Drive. On June 12th please take a moment to recognize the women who have served and are serving in our Armed Forces for Women Veterans Day! Although we won’t have a special event this year, we acknowledge the strength and bravery of our Women Veterans always.
