The Broward Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man in connection with a deadly multi-vehicle traffic crash on February 13 in the City of Tamarac.
On Monday, August 14, Frantz Laine, 20, of Pompano Beach, was taken into custody and transported to the BSO’s Main Jail. He now faces multiple charges, including two counts of vehicular homicide, several counts of reckless driving, one count of possession of cannabis, and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Details from the February incident depict a harrowing scene that unfolded shortly after 1:24 p.m. on the 7400 block of West McNab Road.
BSO Traffic Homicide Unit detectives were called to investigate a collision involving multiple vehicles. Preliminary findings showed a 2019 Hyundai attempting a left turn into the north entrance of the University Commons shopping plaza from the westbound lane of West McNab Road.
Concurrently, Laine, operating a 2014 Lexus IS250, approached from the eastbound lane. This resulted in a violent collision in the eastbound lanes.
The impact was so severe that the Hyundai’s engine was ejected from its bay, causing the car to overturn and finally halt on its driver’s side. During this ordeal, at least one passenger from the Hyundai was thrown out of the vehicle.
Meanwhile, the Lexus, post-collision, veered off the road, hitting several objects, including a fire hydrant, bushes, and a large plaza sign. This trajectory ended with the Lexus rolling atop an unoccupied 2016 Toyota Corolla in the parking lot at 7300 West McNab Road. Notably, debris from the plaza sign hit and pierced an unoccupied 2009 Audi A4 parked nearby.

Tamarac Fire Rescue was swift to arrive at the accident site. Paramedics rushed all five vehicle occupants to a nearby medical facility.
The front passenger of the Hyundai was pronounced dead upon arrival, and the driver of the Hyundai succumbed to her crash-induced injuries a week later.
