With the Presidential election just months away, you won’t want to miss “The Best Man,” a political satire that is showing until the end of this week.
Woodlands Resident Alvin Entin is just one of the stars of the play written by the late Gore Vidal. The show, which is about the front runner and challenger for the presidential nomination, will be playing at the Pembroke Pines Theater of the Performing Arts until this Sunday.
For 17 years, Entin has been the Chairman of the Board for The Pembroke Pines Theatre for the Performing Arts or PPTOPA, which is the oldest operating community theater in Broward County. All performers are unpaid.

Originally from Passaic New Jersey, Alvin Entin and his wife Lois lived in North Miami Beach and Pembroke Pines before settling in Tamarac where they have been residents of the Woodlands Country Club for almost eight years. His brother, Richard and wife Sandra live in the Woodlands as well, in the same home that his parents bought back in 1974.
Entin says he first caught the “acting bug” when his children were in the play “Oliver” at the PPTOPA. Eventually the head of the theater company asked him to be in “Fiddler on the Roof.” Since then Entin has been in many more plays over the years.
In between his acting gigs, he plays a more important role as Chairman overseeing the administration of the theater. He also was appointed as a judge for the Carbonnell Awards which are South Florida’s version of the Tony Awards. Entin has the opportunity to see shows all over South Florida looking for the best nominees in a variety of categories.
You know how they say “don’t quit your day job,” Entin’s day job is working as a Criminal and Complex Civil Litigation Attorney at Entin & Della Fera, P.A. in downtown Fort Lauderdale. For over 40 years, he has developed a national reputation as a trial lawyer through a long list of acquittals in significant cases.
Entin and Lois have six children ranging in age from 26 to 36. His youngest sons, 26 year-old Edmond and Gary are actors and producers in Los Angeles who recently starrred in the movie “Seconds Apart.”
Entin encourages all residents to come see a show at the PPTOPA.
“Having our residents attend a performance would be a great introduction to our theater and a potential source of new patrons for us.”
Entin welcomes anyone to audition for future plays like “Annie,” which will hold their auditions at the end of August.
You can see “The Best Man” August 10-12. Friday and Saturday Evening Performances at 8 pm and Saturday and Sunday Matinees are at 2pm.
