Temple Beth Torah Sha’aray Tzedek’s Tikkun Olam Committee has partnered with the Legacy Closet for a Diaper Drive to help families in need.
Located in Margate, The Legacy Closet is where families in need can pick-up cost-free clothing, household items, and essentials.
The Temple’s Tikkun Olam Committee meaning “repair the world,” teams with different community organizations to conduct monthly mitzvah or good deed projects such as: donating diapers, new pajamas, new or gently used clothing, clothing for veterans, non-perishable food, and essential items.
The committee has been around for more than 20 years. It has also partnered with the Jewish Family Services’ RAK PAK (Random Acts of Kindness), a non-profit clothing pantry providing new clothing exclusively for females of all ages.
“These two organizations couldn’t be more appreciative and easy to work with,” said Karen Renzer, Tikkun Olam Committee Chair.
“Our entire congregation contributes to the success of these projects,” says Ronit Goldstein, Early Childhood Director for Temple Beth Torah Sha’aray Tzedek.
“One of the most beautiful mitzvot in Judaism is to give tzedakah (charity). We teach our children in our daily activities and curriculum the values of kindness and good deeds.”
Renzer says COVID-19 has changed plans but not halted them completely.
“We have had an overwhelming outpouring of donations so far,” says Renzer. “Just because we have a pandemic doesn’t mean we can’t continue helping the community.”
She hopes these donations will help the many families in need and help unburden them in 2021.
Temple Beth Torah Sha’aray Tzedek is accepting diaper donations now through to January 31. The more donations, the merrier; all sizes accepted. Donations can be dropped off in the large bins at the synagogue’s preschool entrance at 5700 NW 94th Ave Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
