New signage was unveiled on Monday for a citywide program that will give Tamarac a more uniform appearance.
After winning the bid, Baron Signs Manufacturing (no relationship to author) in Riviera Beach gave a presentation to the commission which included their resume of completed or proposed projects for the City of North Miami, Port of Palm Beach, Orlando International Airport, Miami International Airport, University of Miami Hospital and Florida International University.
In business for over 35 years with 48 employees, President Jerry Foland told the commission they used recycled and mostly American-made materials.
The total cost of the signage project will be $1,779,078. Funds were budgeted in 2016 for $837,560, and $630,000 in the 2017 proposed budget, which leaves an additional appropriation amount needed of $941,518.
“It’s a big financial commitment. There are at least 24 other signs that are going to be provided going forward – and we’re going to continue to recommend funding for that,” said City Manager Michael Cernech.
The entire project will be divided with Phase One beginning this fall, which will be gateway, facilities and directional locations for the city including two signs that will have electronic message centers placed at city hall. Also, signs around the following locations in Woodmont:

Phase Two will begin in the spring/summer of 2017 and will include 16 entry signs for communities that were interested in replacing their current signage. Phase Three which will begin in the summer of 2017 will include 12 parks. Phase Four begins in 2018 and includes 30 directional signs and 24 neighborhood signs of those that are on the waiting list.
Said Cernech. “There are other communities that are on a waiting list, and there are other communities that will want to be on the waiting list. The goal is to go get all these signs put up as we go forward.”
