Have you heard the saying, ‘Our loss is their gain’?  Well, I’m sure many residents in Tamarac are going to be thinking this when they find out Tamarac official, Andy Berns, has been hired away by another city.

It was announced  late on Friday afternoon that Andy Berns, Tamarac’s community and economic affairs officer, has been named as the new Town Administrator of Southwest Ranches.

“I love Tamarac. I work with a very bright and talented group of people,” said Berns. ” I’ve lived in this community many years and my heart is here.”

A longtime south Florida resident, Berns has been in Broward since 1973 and graduated from Coconut Creek High School before there was even a high school in his hometown of Coral Springs.

A graduate of Kean University in New Jersey with a BS in Management Science, and it wasn’t until later he discovered his love of public administration and earned his Masters Degree in Public Administration from FAU in 2009.

Starting at the City of Tamarac in Public Informations, Berns eventually became the Community and Economic Affairs Officer, where he was primarily responsible for recruiting and attracting businesses to Tamarac. One of his many other responsibilities was overseeing the Woodlands Neighborhood Improvement District and he worked closely with their officers and was well-liked by all that met him.

Berns is also very involved with the Tamarac Kiwanis. As a founding President of the reorganized organization back in 2007, Berns has been very involved with charitable works in the community.

“I feel the career move that he made will be a benefit to Southwest Ranches. The job he did for Tamarac will not be forgotten for a long time.”  said Kiwanis President Barry Harris.

Berns is expected to resign from the City of Tamarac sometime around June 1st and start with the town of Southwest Ranches on June 4th.
