If your water smells or tastes a little like chlorine, don’t be alarmed because it’s still safe to drink.
Two water distribution systems serving the City of Tamarac will temporarily return to free chlorination of the drinking water. This includes Tamarac’s, which provides drinking water to all areas west of State Road 7, and Fort Lauderdale’s system which serves those parts of Tamarac east of NW 31st Avenue.
Chlorine is a highly efficient disinfectant added to public water supplies to kill disease-causing pathogens such as bacteria, viruses, and protozoans that commonly grow in water supply reservoirs, on the walls of water mains and in storage tanks. This routine maintenance procedure may result in a slight change in the taste or smell of tap water, but these short-term conditions won’t cause any adverse health effects.
This preventive procedure is a routine part of water distribution system maintenance and will be performed Tuesday, June 20, 2017 through Tuesday, July 25, 2017.
