The City of Tamarac along with the Veterans Affairs Committee will hold its Memorial Day Service to honor all Americans who made the supreme sacrifice with their unselfish devotion in order to defend our heritage of liberty and justice for all.
Held on May 29, at 10:30 a.m., this year’s keynote speaker will be Command Sergeant Major (Ret.) Randy S. Thomas. A South Florida native, Thomas entered the Army in 1991 and served in a variety of leadership and staff positions, retiring from active duty in 2016. His assignments included military intelligence at various bases stateside as well as in Korea and Germany. His deployments include Bosnia and Herzegovina, Turkey and Afghanistan.
Thomas holds a Bachelor of Science from Excelsior College and a Master of Arts in Leadership Studies from the University of El Paso. Throughout his career, he received a number of awards including the Bronze Star and Meritorious Service Medal. He currently resides in Sunrise and volunteers as the Director of Operations for the Objective Zero Foundation, whose mission is to connect veterans in need to a community of fellow veterans, current service members and concerned citizens.
Winners of the “What Memorial Day Means to Me” school essay contest will also be recognized from local elementary schools: Tamarac, Challenger and Renaissance Charter. Also, the award-winning JP Taravella High School band will be playing.
Come shake the hands of our heroes who served our country at Veterans Memorial Park located at 7825 Southgate Boulevard. Refreshments served afterwards.
