The Multi-Purpose Center in Tamarac Gets a Major Renovation

The Multi Purpose Center in Tamarac will be going through a renovation that will include both indoor and outdoor improvements. This busy facility hosts not only summer camps, but is also used by  Tamarac Elementary School Physical Education classes, after school programs and city programs.

The building was constructed in 1990 with a translucent material called Kalwall that has an appearance of windows, but over the years it has experienced leaks, and with it high maintenance costs and difficulties in finding parts to repair it.

Greg Warner, the director of parks and recreation says that workers will be removing the Kalwall and replacing it with a durable sure board material for that portion of the wall and a new standing seem roof material will be installed.  The new design will allow for a modern appearance.  Internally, the Multi Purpose Center will experience improvements such as the replacement of the air conditioning system, bleachers and gym floor. The city recently awarded a contract to Cityworks Construction LLC at a cost of $256,777.

The building is currently closed but hopefully will reopen in May to what will look like a brand new building.
