Tamarac is getting a whole lot sweeter with the opening of Sweet Realities, a custom cakery specializing in gourmet cupcakes, cakes, desserts, specialty cocktails, and more.
Sweet Realities features various themed sweets and drinks, from customizable sprinkles to colorfully tall, six-layered cakes, milkshakes, and margaritas.
The idea for Sweet Realities started in the kitchen of 19-year-old Alexis Collins, a self-taught, Jamaican born baker in September 2016. After inventing more recipes and cake creations in culinary school, at 24-years-old she officially opened the storefront doors in August of this year.
In just over a month, Alexis’ Collins creations are receiving great reviews. Diverse flavors for a diverse community is quickly making it a popular spot.
The vibe is more like a bakery lounge, where patrons can enjoy cupcakes and mixed alcoholic beverages.
“Our infused drinks (like mango margaritas) are the most popular. Our ‘cup-shakes,’ which is a milkshake based around the cupcake flavor with cupcake bits included, is also a favorite,” said Alexis. “We also offer boozy milkshakes, with decadent chocolate liquors. We have something for everyone.”
Sweet Realities recently expanded its interior to include an intimate venue for events, known as The Sweet Space. The 900 square feet venue can accommodate 70 guests, but a 40-50 guest maximum is recommended — along with masks for safety.
This new location is perfect for Tamarac or Lauderhill residents, combining the two things that go hand-in-hand – desserts and parties.

“I’ve always been the baker,” said Alexis. “But where there’s a cake, there’s generally a party, so I created a one-stop-shop for both.”
Sweet Realities and The Sweet Space are both located in The Shoppes at University at 7425 N.W. 57th Street in Tamarac. Store hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday to Friday and 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sundays (closed Mondays and Tuesdays).
