Trulieve Opens First Medical Marijuana Dispensary in Tamarac

Trulieve Cannabis Corp. is opening their 75th Florida dispensary on February 27, marking the company’s first in Tamarac and third in Broward County, which will expand patient access to high-quality medical cannabis products.

The Tamarac dispensary, located at 5900 Rock Island Rd, supports Trulieve’s goal of ensuring direct, reliable access to medical cannabis across Florida’s home state and joins nearby locations in Fort Lauderdale, Dania Beach, and several more throughout nearby Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties.

The opening of a medical dispensary in Tamarac wouldn’t have been possible a few years ago.

Although overwhelmingly passed by 71 percent of Florida voters in 2016. In 2018, former Tamarac Mayor Harry Dressler and the city commission unanimously passed a ban on medical marijuana dispensaries in Tamarac.

Dressler was vehemently opposed to dispensaries, calling them a gigantic scam, and was factually misinformed about the differences between CBD and THC, the active ingredient in marijuana.

After Mayor Michelle Gomez was elected in 2019, former City Commissioner Julie Fishman took it upon herself to do more research.

“The fastest-growing demographic using medical marijuana is people 65 and older. I have taken the time to educate myself on this issue by taking a tour of facilities from growing to dispensing and have been impressed with the professionalism I have seen,” she said.

The city held a citizen’s survey asking residents whether they approved of medical marijuana dispensaries. A whopping 89.3 percent of those who responded were in favor of allowing them in Tamarac.

In 2020, Fluent opened a medical marijuana dispensary in the City of Coral Springs.

In stores and online, patients a large selection of THC and CBD products in a variety of delivery methods, including edibles, smokable cannabis, concentrates, tinctures, topical creams, vaporizers, and more. Trulieve also offers home delivery statewide for patients and convenient in-store pickup at each of its dispensaries in Florida.

“There’s so much to celebrate as we open our 75th Florida dispensary, but we’re especially excited to connect further with the community in Tamarac, especially those curious about exploring natural relief and medical cannabis,” said Trulieve CEO Kim Rivers who added their staff is well-trained, educated, and ready to serve patients.

In honor of the Company’s brand-new dispensary, all patients — from those new to Trulieve to the dedicated Truliever community will be eligible for a 25 percent in-store discount at the new Tamarac dispensary on opening day.

In line with local ordinances, all visitors are required to wear masks. Additionally, only patients and their state-approved caregivers will be allowed inside the waiting room and dispensary at this time.

The Office of Medical Marijuana Use recently announced the registry was nearing 500,000 registered medical marijuana patients with an active ID card, with Trulieve consistently selling approximately half of the state’s overall volume per the Florida Department of Health.

There are nearly 2,700 registered ordering physicians in the State of Florida to support the state’s rapidly growing patient base.
