The weather is finally starting to cool, hurricane season is just about in the rearview mirror, and South Florida is ready to welcome all our snowbird friends back.

Whether you want to grab a bite at a new trendy restaurant in Fort Lauderdale or catch our Eastern Conference champion Florida Panthers at Amerant Bank Arena, you have many options. Let’s all get out and enjoy these great events beginning this month throughout our community.

Speaking of events, our Broward County Parks are full of exciting opportunities for everyone. At the beginning of November, check out the Family Hayride and Camp Fire on November 3 or get ready to joust at the Camelot Days Medieval Festival at T.Y. Park.

In the middle of the month, our parks will host several night hikes at the many natural areas throughout the county, or get ready for some Bluegrass music at the Dan Barrow Memorial Bluegrass Jam on November 12. My personal favorite, the Holiday Fantasy of Lights, begins on November 22 and runs through January 2. Enjoy all these great events and more. Check out Broward.org/parks for more information and to view the entire calendar!

Did you get a chance to see the awesome boats in Fort Lauderdale at the end of October? The Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show outdid itself again as it showcased not only fabulous boats but also our local marine industries. With an economic impact of $1.79 billion and over 100,000 attendees, South Florida was in the spotlight.

The boat show is not only the largest in-water boat show in Florida but worldwide. Congratulations to all on another successful event! South Florida loves being on the water, and a boat is the best way to do it.

In October, we all received the news of the tragedy in the State of Israel. At the Broward County Commission meeting on October 10, the first since the horrific attacks on Israel, I sponsored a resolution in support of Israel and its citizens.

The tragic attacks against our ally are nothing short of repugnant, a war crime, and a violation of human rights. Many in our community have family and friends who reside in Israel. As someone who has not only visited but worked towards greater ties between our communities, these events brought feelings of disbelief and sadness.

Today and every day, I will stand with Israel, the Jewish people, and our community— this resolution reflects the steadfast support of Broward County.

November 11 marks Veterans Day throughout our country. If you can, please attend one of the many events throughout our District 3 cities. If you can’t, please make sure to thank a veteran for their service because, as many will tell you, their service in the military may have ended, but the mission continues when they return home and continue to serve the community. I salute all our brave veterans and thank them for their dedication to our nation.

It is the season of gratitude, and I would like to wish a Happy Thanksgiving to all the communities of District 3. I hope that you not only enjoy some turkey and football but are able to participate in one of the many community events like the Turkey Trot or provide a meal for those less fortunate. Happy Thanksgiving to all!
