After vaccinating its frontline hospital workers, University Hospital and Medical Center (UHMC) in Tamarac expanded to include local healthcare workers and first responders — and the hospital was on the front end of South Florida hospitals to do so.
“Our healthcare workers and first responders are critical to the ongoing health and well-being of our community,” said Ben Harris, Chief Executive Officer of UHMC. “We are proud to offer the vaccine and believe it is critical in helping to end the pandemic.”
The hospital anticipates administering up to 180 doses on Thursday alone and two lots of vaccines over the past few weeks.
UHMC continues to follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance and the Governor’s Executive Order in providing the vaccine to healthcare workers at this time.
“We look forward to when the vaccine can be administered to our community members,” said Harris.
University Hospital and Medical Center began administering the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to frontline workers back in December. Those who were vaccinated work primarily in high-exposure units, including nurses and doctors in the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, and COVID Units. All vaccinations are voluntary.
