Joey Scuotto, Lori Parrish and Martin Kiar celebrate their Victories at a party at Scuotto's Restaurant
It was “Victory Day” for two candidates who celebrated with family and friends on Sunday evening.
Property Appraiser Lori Parrish and Broward County Commission candidate Martin “Marty” Kiar were happy to find out on Friday afternoon that no one else would be running against them in the November election. This makes Parrish instantly reelected, and Kiar the newly elected Broward County Commissioner for District One in an open seat vacated by Ilene Lieberman who is termed out after 16 years of service.
Held at Scuotto’s Pizza & Pasta in Sunrise, owner Joey Scuotto was celebrating as well, winning his Sunrise Commission seat without an opponant.
With only 48 hours to assemble a party, the Scuotto family decorated, cooked, baked and hired a DJ for hundreds of people that dropped by to offer their congratulations.
Currently serving in the Florida House of Representatives for District 97, Kiar has been busy these past few months knocking on thousands of doors and trying to meet as many people as he could.
“I am so excited to serve on the County Commission. It has always been my dream to serve on the commission because it is a great opportunity to make a positive and immediate difference in the lives of our residents.”
Many public officials showed up to offer their congratulations including: Sheriff Al Lamberti, State Senators Nan Rich and Jeramy Ring, School Board Member Katie Leach, State Representative Candidate Louis Reinstein, Candidate for Sheriff Louis Granteed, City Commissioners Le Peerman of Margate and Lisa Mallozzi of Cooper City and Circuit Court Candidate Michael Rothschild who was there with his family.
Parrish was first elected as Property Appraiser back in 2005. She was reelected in 2008, and again this year without opposition. Formally a Broward County Commissioner, she started her public life as a Broward County School Board member.
Kiar is a local Davie resident who graduated from Western High School and went on to Law School. He was the former Assistant Attorney for the Town of Davie and has been a member of the Florida Legislature since 2006.
With his wife due with their second child in August, Kiar will have his hands full from now until November while he will try to meet with every county agency and staff member he can, all while continuing to learn the the budget inside out.
“I am going to continue researching each and every issue that could foreseeably come before the County Commission. The reason being, is because I want to hit the ground running when I am sworn in and I want to do the best job possible for the residents of our county.”
Kiar is going to continue walking door to door in District One which covers: Weston, Sunrise, Plantation, with parts of Tamarac, Davie and Lauderhill. He plans to introduce himself, not to ask for votes, but to see if he can help them in anyway.
Upon seeing a District One resident, Kiar asked the eight year-old, “Since I’m your new Broward County Commissioner, what would you like me to do?”
“I want a pony!” She said.
Looks like he’s got his work cut out for him.
