If your water smells or tastes a little like chlorine, don’t be alarmed because it’s still safe to drink.
The City of Tamarac temporarily returns to free chlorination of the drinking water. This only includes Tamarac’s system, which services areas east of State Road 7/US 441, and not Fort Lauderdale’s system, which serves those parts of Tamarac east of NW 31st Avenue.
Chlorine is a highly efficient disinfectant added to kill disease-causing pathogens such as bacteria, viruses, and protozoans that commonly grow in supply reservoirs, on the walls of water mains, and in storage tanks.
This routine maintenance procedure may result in a slight change in the taste or smell, but these short-term conditions won’t cause any adverse health effects.
This preventive procedure will be performed from April 6, 2021, at 9:00 a.m. through April 27, at 9:00 a.m.
