Tamarac residents looking to explore local artists and buy handmade crafts for the holidays will soon have the opportunity to do so.
The Tamarac North Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce and the City of North Lauderdale will host their second annual Biz Art in the Park at Hampton Pines Park in North Lauderdale, located at 7800 Hampton Boulevard.
The event will take place on Saturday, Nov. 12, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Admission is free.
Biz Art in the Park will feature between 30 and 40 vendors and include local businesses, artists, crafters, live music, and performances.
One of the local dance groups that will perform is Simply Inspired Dance.
The Chamber and the city hosted the first event in 2019, but because of COVID, they did not host the event in 2020 or 2021.
According to Peter Mason, chamber executive director, the event is a way to bring together the community by showcasing the arts and allowing eventgoers to appreciate what North Lauderdale has to offer.
“This idea came to us because the arts [encompasses] a collection of schools, businesses, and community, and we want to connect them,” he said. Mason also noted that eventgoers would have the option to buy crafts for the holidays.
Similar to 2019, there will be a poster decorating contest for students in local schools. The theme for 2022 is “saving the environment.”
Students will submit their posters to the city’s public art committee, which will then pick three winners. The winning posters will be displayed at various city landmarks.
For children, The Home Depot will have a station where they can use safe hand tools to build and create small-scale projects.
Culinary students from Boyd Anderson High School will also cook food for the gathering.
Mason said he hopes the event provides an opportunity for eventgoers to buy unique, affordable pieces that enhance the home and community and make good holiday gifts.
He also stated that he wants people to enjoy themselves at Biz Art.
“It will be a fun event,” Mason said. “We hope people get into the local stores, buy dinner, and get to know North Lauderdale.”
