From Broward County Commissioner Michael Udine
September is here, but it still feels like summer in South Florida. I hope you are enjoying one of the many Labor Day events in District 3’s cities and football as the season kicks off (Go Gators and Dolphins)! Need to cool off? County water parks like C.B. Smith’s Paradise Cove, or the many splash pads throughout District 3’s cities, remain open and a great way for kids to run off that excess energy. September may mean getting back into your routine, but Broward County can help you relax and make memories with family.
Are you election ready? The deadline to register to vote is October 7th. Do not delay; register today. Visit browardvotes.gov for more information. Speaking of the Supervisor of Elections Office, I was proud to join my colleagues from the Commission and across Broward County as we cut the ribbon to open the new Supervisor of Elections building. The facility is centrally located in Broward County and features increased security and technology, while focusing on transparency for the public and voting process. Come out and view the Canvassing Board and observe the count in progress from windows throughout the building. Democracy lives best in the light. Congratulations to administration, and the Supervisor of Elections Joe Scott on the completion of this important project.
September is also the conclusion of budget season for Broward County. The budget covers repairing potholes, public safety, emergency management, parks, libraries, and everything in between. I continue to advocate for a lower millage property tax rate because it’s time to give residents a break (they deserve it!). Other surrounding counties continue to lower their rates, and we should do the same. I will continue to fight for my constituents, who struggle daily with the effects of inflation. As your County Commissioner, I will make sure District 3 is heard every day on the dais.
This month is also Hispanic Heritage Month (beginning September 15th). Check out Broward Libraries for more information on great events and programming that will be happening throughout the month such as the Hispanic Heritage Movie Marathon, book discussions with local authors, and a cultural dance program. All this and more can be found at Broward.org/library/events/pages/Hispanicheritage.
Finally, we all remember where we were on September 11th, 2001. Please take a moment and remember all those that were lost during the attacks and the families that keep their loved one’s memories alive every day.
