A heated argument between two employees at a Denny’s restaurant erupted into a violent altercation, resulting in the arrest of one worker who allegedly threatened a co-worker with a knife.
According to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office report, the incident occurred on March 26 at the Denny’s at 5710 North University Drive.
Witnesses told BSO deputies that an argument between two Denny’s employees, with the suspect in the crime, later identified as Dominique Knight-Lewis, 31, of Tamarac, and a female co-worker, the victim.
Witnesses told deputies that the confrontation began as a verbal dispute, during which Knight-Lewis allegedly made remarks about the victim’s children and boyfriend. The victim responded with profanity, which reportedly prompted Knight-Lewis to retrieve a butcher knife from the kitchen.
Multiple witnesses confirmed seeing Knight-Lewis swing the knife in a diagonal motion while walking toward the victim, reportedly saying, “I’m going to cut you.” The victim told deputies she feared for her life as Knight-Lewis approached within five feet of her before other co-workers intervened to de-escalate the situation.
The BSO report shows that Knight-Lewis was detained and questioned after deputies arrived and calmed the situation. She admitted to being involved in the argument but declined to elaborate further.
Deputies recovered the knife from the scene. The entire incident was captured on surveillance footage, which confirmed that Knight-Lewis exited the kitchen holding the weapon and aggressively moved toward the victim.
Dominique Knight-Lewis was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail. She was later released after posting $5,000 bond.
