Travon Ehrens Octelus {BSO}
A FedEx driver was robbed during a Tamarac delivery before the suspect led deputies on a police chase that ended in a crash and foot pursuit.
According to BSO arrest records, Travon Ehrens Octelus, 29, was arrested on February 26 after investigators connected him to the robbery of a FedEx package earlier that day.
Deputies responded to the 7000 block of Northwest 79 Avenue after receiving a report that a FedEx driver had just been robbed while making a delivery. The driver told deputies he had stopped his truck and was walking toward a home with a package when a vehicle with dark-tinted windows pulled up nearby.
The FedEx driver told investigators that a man exited the front passenger side of the vehicle, approached the driver, and forcibly grabbed the package from his hands before running back to the car and fleeing the scene. Investigators later reviewed video footage from a camera mounted on the FedEx truck, which captured images of the suspect and the vehicle.
Using license plate reader data, detectives identified the vehicle as a white Nissan Sentra with a Texas tag, registered as an Enterprise rental. Records showed the vehicle had been rented by a woman who lived at an address in Pompano Beach.
Later that evening, members of the Pompano Beach Crime Suppression Team located the vehicle parked in a lot in Pompano Beach and began surveillance. When Octelus entered the vehicle and drove away, detectives attempted to initiate a traffic stop. Instead of stopping, he accelerated away, initiating a pursuit. The vehicle eventually crashed into another car near the 1200 block of West Commercial Boulevard.
Authorities say Octelus fled on foot but was quickly caught. During an interview with detectives, Octelus allegedly acknowledged that he was the person seen in the FedEx surveillance images.
Octelus was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail. He was later released after paying a $12,000 bond.
