J.P. Taravella baseball played well in the BCAA Championship under new coach Jorge Miranda and had a pair of committed players.
The Trojans began their season 4-0, with wins against Deerfield Beach, Cypress Bay, South Plantation, and Pembokr Pie Charter. JPT outscored its opponents 27-12 in its first four games before competing against Cardinal Gibbons High School in its first game of the BCAA Championship.
Despite falling 8-1, the Trojans responded with back-to-back wins, beating Charles W. Flanagan School 6-1. J.C. Martinez homered while Jeremiah McFarlane drove in three, and Michael Ghann knocked in two.
Tyler Morgan came within one out of a complete game, allowing no earned runs before Zach Stephens closed it. The Trojans then beat Western High School, 4-2, with Anthony Toizol and Morgan driving in runs. Stephens tossed dour innings and earned the win, with Alexander Almanzar coming out of the bullpen.
JPT is currently 7-2 and won over Piper and Coral Springs Charter this week while falling to American Heritage High School. Zach Stevens, Toizol, and Ghann drove in four while Ghann pitched a complete game. For their commitments, Morgan is officially headed to La Salle University.
“I want to thank the coaches for offering me this incredible opportunity, Morgan said. “Thank you to my parents for always believing in me. I want to also thank my coaches throughout my entire baseball career for helping me be the player I am today.”
Morgan is currently hitting over .330 and has a home run. He improved his average by over .130 points from his sophomore season and has 12 career RBIs
The Trojans also had one of their commitments from Alex Almanac, who will play college baseball at Regent University in Virginia.
“I would like to thank Coach Lindsay for giving me this opportunity, “Almanac said. “I would also like to thank our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Thank you to family, friends, coaches, and teammates for all the support throughout my career.”
Almanac has already pitched in two games for the Trojans this year, earning a save in one of his outings. He has also averaged a strikeout per inning and will go on to play for a team that has already tripled its win total from last year.
