A “Rock the Vote” picnic on Sunday, inviting area club members to meet elected officials and learn more about candidates running in November’s election.
The event held at Betty Stradling Park in Coral Springs also included the Deerfield Beach, Kings Point, Wynmoor, Margate, Coconut Creek and the Tamarac/Sawgrass Democratic Clubs.
Grace Carrington, President of the Coral Springs Parkland Democratic Club organized the picnic with all the clubs chipping in for food. “I contacted the President’s of each club because we shared some of the same elected officials. I wanted to give the community an opportunity to meet them.”
Elected Officials in attendance were U.S. Congressman Ted Deutch, State Senator Jeremy Ring, newly elected State Representative and Broward County Commissioner Kristin Jacobs, Broward County Commissioner Stacy Ritter, School Board Member Robin Bartleman, Tamarac Mayor Harry Dressler, Coral Springs City Commissioner Claudette Bruck, Tamarac City Commissioner Diane Glasser, Tamarac City Commissioner Debra Placko, and Broward Democratic Chair Mitch Ceasar.
Candidates in attendance were: Willam Rankin for Florida CFO; Lisa Aronson, candidate for Broward County Commission; Walter “Skip” Campbell, candidate for Coral Springs Mayor; Mike Gelin, candidate for Tamarac Mayor; Harry Dressler who is also running for Tamarac Mayor; Howard Melamed, candidate for Coral Springs City Commission Seat 4; Joy Carter, candidate for Coral Springs City Commission Seat 5; and Anthony Caggiano, candidate for Margate City Commission.
The Coral Springs Parkland Democratic Club is holding their next meeting on Thursday, September 4, at 7:30 p.m. at Cypress Park Hall between Royal Palm Blvd and Atlantic Blvd on Coral Springs Drive where Property Appraiser Lori Parrish and Representative Jim Waldman will be speakers. Dues are $10 annually.
The Tamarac / Sawgrass Democratic Club holds their monthly meetings on the last Tuesday of every month at the Lake Colony Clubhouse, 7102 Brookwood Blvd, Tamarac, FL 33321 at 7:00 p.m.
