The Broward Sheriff’s Office arrested a man who posed as a roofing contractor, scamming a Tamarac homeowner out of money and causing thousands in damages to his home.
On December 19, 2019, a homeowner at the 5000 block of Bayberry Lane filed a police report after being scammed out of $500. Becho was supposed to do repairs to his Woodlands home; however, there was no written contract between the suspect and the homeowner.
The homeowner told BSO that Becho damaged his home in the process, leaving holes in the roof and paint on the exterior walls, along with damage to the grass.
It was discovered Becho was allegedly impersonating a business by using a license number belonging to a company in Sarasota and a company’s name in Davie. The homeowner spoke with both companies’ owners, who confirmed someone was using their information without their authorization and no one by his name ever worked for them.
The estimated cost to fix his roof was between $3,000-$5,000.
The suspect, later identified through photos, was Sammy Becho, 41. In 2018, Becho was arrested in Wilton Manors for the exploitation of an older adult, grand theft, and falsely identifying himself as a contractor.
After a warrant was issued for Becho, police arrested him on November 16 in Miramar. He has been charged with Grand Theft and Falsely Identifying Himself as a Contractor.
