A man was charged with premeditated murder Tuesday for allegedly fatally shooting his co-worker at a Tamarac warehouse.

Damion Dawkins, 37, of Plantation is accused of shooting and killing the male victim shortly before 2 p.m. at the warehouse of Sonny’s The CarWash Factory at 6501 Nob Hill Rd., according to court records and media reports.

The shooting happened after the victim allegedly confronted a female colleague Tuesday morning for allegedly telling other workers at the business that he was harassing her, according to media reports citing a Broward Sheriff’s Office arrest affidavit.

On Tuesday afternoon, Dawkins fought the unarmed male victim, chased him, and began shooting, reports said. When he reached the victim, he allegedly aimed his gun and shot him from behind in the neck, killing him.

BSO deputies arrived to find the victim, whose name was not released, lying in a pool of blood. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

According to reports, Dawkins walked out of the warehouse with his hands raised and was arrested.

In a statement issued to the media, a spokesperson for Sonny’s said:

“We are shocked and saddened by the shooting yesterday at our warehouse in Tamarac, which tragically took the life of one of our employees,” a spokesperson for Sonny’s said in a statement. “Our hearts go out to the family of the victim. We are working closely with the Broward Sheriff’s Office and want to thank them for their brave actions.”
