Dear Neighbors,
Happy August! Hope you’ve been enjoying the summer and staying cool. School starts up again soon, but there’s still time to enjoy some of the terrific events we have planned this month.
On Saturday, August 3, summer fun continues with our Back-to-School Splash from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Caporella Aquatic Complex (9300 NW 58th St.). Come enjoy music, games, and more by the pool. The first 60 children (ages 5-12) will receive a “back-to-school” goodie bag, so plan to arrive early! Admission is $5.00 per person. For more information, call (954) 597-3660.
You won’t want to miss this month’s Move with the Mayor—it’s Zumba! Exercising is always so much more fun with great music! Join us at Tamarac Park, 7501 N. University Drive, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, August 9th, for this free class. Be sure to mark your calendars for the next free session, Beat Burners, on Wednesday, September 18, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Tamarac Community Center (8601 W. Commercial Blvd.).
It was in August, 1974 that HCA Florida Woodmont Hospital opened its doors in our community as University Community Hospital. This month we congratulate HCA Woodmont for celebrating 50 years of providing comprehensive, quality care for our families here in Tamarac and throughout Broward County!
I’m thrilled to share the news that the City of Tamarac has won its second Florida League of Mayors Municipal Innovation Awards in the Quality of Life category for our City’s Shine Tamarac project! It is an honor to accept the Award at the Florida League of Mayors meeting on Wednesday, August 14. This Award celebrates municipalities that exemplify creativity and efficiency in addressing community needs. Thank you to everyone who has participated and will participate in our “See, Click, Fix” platform in helping Tamarac Shine Together! So proud of our City!
What better way is there to learn to dance than from a professional instructor? And what’s better than learning from a professional – for free! Commissioner Elvin Villalobos and I have been hosting a series of free professional dance lessons this summer. We had so much fun learning the Bachata and Merengue in June and July, and our next and final session will be Salsa on Friday, August 16, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Tamarac Community Center. Come by yourself or with your favorite dance partner! And please save the date for Saturday, September 14, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. for our free Hispanic Heritage Month dance party, also at the Tamarac Community Center. Please see the flyer attached for more information.
The start of the school year doesn’t have to mean the end of summer fun! Please join us for our Family Fun in the Sun Day on Saturday, August 17, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Waters Edge Park (7508 NW 61st St.). Bring the kids for a fun-filled afternoon of games, music, food vendors, and much more. Please note there is limited on-site parking, so plan to use the continuous free shuttle transportation beginning at 9:30 a.m. from Tamarac Park.
Early registration continues this month for the Community Garage Sale, to be held on Saturday, October 5. Now’s the time to take advantage of the discounted early registration fee of $25.00 per space, which goes up to $40.00 per space on September 23. Don’t miss this great opportunity to turn your unwanted items into extra cash – and save even more by registering at the discounted rate! Visit Tamarac Park or www.Tamarac.me/Webtrac to register.
