During the recent Regular City Commission meeting on December 13, the Tamarac City Commission voted unanimously to appoint District 2 Commissioner Morey Wright as the vice mayor.
This appointment marks a pivotal step in Wright’s political career, which began with his election into the Tamarac City Commission in November 2022.
As the newly appointed vice mayor, Wright’s responsibilities include acting as mayor in the absence of Michelle J. Gomez.
Wright is slated to serve in this position for a one-year term, during which he will be instrumental in several key functions of the city’s administration.
According to the city, Wright has actively contributed to Tamarac’s representation on various platforms since he was elected. Notably, he represented the city as a Voting Delegate at the 97th Annual Florida League of Cities Conference.
His leadership skills were acknowledged through his role as Chair of the Auditor Selection Committee.
Wright expressed his sentiments on the appointment: “I’m honored to be appointed as Tamarac’s Vice Mayor. I am excited to continue to work with the commission, residents, and community members to develop meaningful programs and initiatives that will positively impact Tamarac and ensure that our city remains a vibrant and thriving community for all.”
Wright is an alumnus of the University of Florida, holding a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Furthering his education, he acquired two master’s degrees in business and government from Johns Hopkins University.
Professionally, Wright holds an executive position at a South Florida-based e-commerce company and owns a small business specializing in digital technology and marketing consultancy.
