The Tamarac Commission finalized the millage rate and budget during a meeting on September 23.
The budget had been decreased before the meeting, and the commission did not pass it in the first round. The commission took a break and asked the city manager and his team to bring back an additional decrease. They came back with a 3 percent decrease, according to Mayor Michelle J. Gomez.
“The FY 2026-27 budget reflects a 22.2% reduction in overall spending while continuing to prioritize essential services, community needs, and the City’s long-term financial stability,” said Gomez.
According to her, the Commission voted to approve a budget of about $228 million. The reduction does not include layoffs and does not affect the Broward Sheriff’s Office, Fire Department, Commission, or Parks and Recreation.
Gomez criticized the budget, saying too much money was still being spent on city festivals and other nonessential expenses.
The commission approved an ordinance to establish and levy an ad valorem tax of 7.0000 mills, or $7,0000 per $1,000, based on the taxable value of non-exempt real and personal property located in the city.
