Tamarac Fire Rescue opened its doors to international visitors on Sept. 21, hosting a private event to teach au pairs about fire safety while offering tours of Station 15.
The program was organized through a partnership between Jennifer Markhoff of Cultural Care Au Pair—a company that places au pairs with host families across the United States—and Van Schoen, Emergency Management Coordinator and Special Programs and Public Information Officer at the Tamarac Fire Department.
Nine au pairs representing six countries attended, along with eight host families and their children. Firefighters provided education on fire safety, conducted car seat inspections, and led tours of the fire station and fire trucks. Children also enjoyed playing with Sparky the Fire Dog, the department’s mascot, and posing for photos.
“This was a day filled with safety education, community involvement, and fun for families,” organizers said.
The event, held at Station 15 at 6000 Hiatus Road, also featured snacks, drinks, and interactive opportunities for kids to learn about the role of firefighters in keeping the community safe.
