From: Mayor Michelle J. Gomez
Over the weekend, protests erupted across the country in response to the tragic death of George Floyd.
Just as we continue to work together through the challenges caused by the pandemic, we must also work together as a community and nation to put an end to injustices like this senseless tragedy and renounce unnecessary violence and destruction.
Thanks to your efforts these past two months, we are now in Phase 1 of reopening. For residents who are still concerned about dining at a restaurant or shopping at stores, please take your time and only do so when you feel comfortable. If you do go out, remember to follow the CDC guidelines and shop local.
Your well-being is our primary goal – we want you to be safe! City parks and facilities are slowly reopening. As of this publication, Gary B Jones Park for People and Pups is open as well as the fitness center at the Caporella Aquatic Complex. For details, please visit tamarac.org/coronavirus.
Since hurricane season is officially underway, now is the best time to stock up on supplies. If possible, tackle your shopping list before the sales tax holiday ends on June 4. For a list of qualifying items visit revenuelaw.floridarevenue.com.
Other suggested items include medications, water, non-perishable food, first-aid kit, and 30-gallon CLEAR trash bags. Additionally, it is important to have a plan in place for both you and your pets in case you need to evacuate. If you or someone you know needs a wellness check or requires assistance preparing for hurricane season, please reach out to me. And if you haven’t already signed up for Tamarac’s CodeRED emergency notifications call (954) 597-3800 or visit public.coderedweb.com.
Thousands of local residents have participated in the food distributions thanks to the ongoing collaboration of our faith-based communities, Feeding South Florida, Broward Sheriff’s Office, and countless volunteers. View the City’s website for the most current schedule at tamarac.org/coronavirus.
I hope you are continuing to take care of your health. Enjoy a walk around your community, read a book in the sunshine, or simply chat with a friend. Above all, please seek medical assistance if you need it! Our hospitals, medical centers, and Tamarac Fire Rescue are all following strict protocols to keep you safe.
Also, if you have not completed your census, please do so. All responses remain confidential for 72 years and will help our City obtain critical funding for the next ten years!
Congratulations to our Class of 2020! Although your end-of-year celebrations are different than what you expected, please make the most of this unique experience! I admire your perseverance and creativity. I hope you enjoy this special time and the banners placed around the City.
Happy Father’s Day to All!
Michelle
