More than 110 students gathered at The View at Colony West on March 15 for the first-ever Student Sustainability Seminar, an initiative by the Tamarac North Lauderdale Chamber Foundation designed to educate and inspire young leaders on environmental stewardship.
Aimed at students ages 14 to 18, the event featured an impressive lineup of speakers, including local government officials and industry experts, who shared insights on sustainability, waste management, and environmental conservation.
Among the speakers were Tamarac Mayor Michelle J. Gomez, Commissioners Morey Wright and Krystal Patterson, North Lauderdale Mayor Samson Borgelin, and Andres Limones Cruz, Government Affairs Manager at Waste Management Inc. of Florida.
They were joined by sustainability professionals, including LeeAnn Kruszynski of Waste Management, Michael Praire, Director of Sustainability for the Florida Panthers, Hyvelle Ferguson Davis, a Master Gardener from Heart Sistas, and Hyacinth Harley of Mover of Mountains LLC.
Throughout the seminar, students engaged in interactive presentations exploring topics such as waste reduction, renewable energy, and practical sustainability efforts. The goal was to provide young attendees with the knowledge and motivation to implement eco-friendly practices in their daily lives.
“We are thrilled to have hosted this inaugural event, which brought together local students and experts in the field of sustainability,” said Peter Mason, Executive Director of the Tamarac North Lauderdale Chamber Foundation. “Our goal is to empower the next generation of leaders to make a positive impact on the environment and their communities.”
The Tamarac North Lauderdale Chamber Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, remains dedicated to fostering environmental awareness through educational initiatives, community events, and partnerships with local organizations.
