A 76-year-old Tamarac woman has died after being involved in a single-vehicle crash in Tamarac, authorities said.

According to Broward Sheriff’s Office, traffic homicide detectives Barbara Axelrod, of 7775 Yardley Drive in Tamarac, suffered terminal injuries in the July 16 crash, which happened about 7:19 p.m.

Axelrod was driving a 2016 Hyundai Azera west in the 8900 block of Northwest 81st Street when the car veered off the roadway, struck a raised center median, drove over the median, then hit a palm tree, investigators said.

The impact redirected the Hyundai back into the westbound lanes of Northwest 81st Street, where it came to rest.

Investigators said Axelrod might have suffered some type of medical event before the crash.

Tamarac Fire Rescue responded and rushed Axelrod to Broward Health North. On July 17, the Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office contacted investigators and said Axelrod had died, according to BSO.

Neither excessive speed nor impairment is considered a factor in the crash, deputies said.

The investigation is ongoing.
