The City of Tamarac will hold a vigil next week honoring Coral Springs Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer Bowen, a public servant remembered for her leadership and dedication to the community.
Metayer Bowen was found dead inside her home on April 1. Her husband, Stephen Bowen, has been charged with her murder.
The vigil is scheduled during the Tamarac City Commission meeting on Tuesday, April 7, beginning at 7 p.m. at Tamarac City Hall, 7525 NW 88th Ave. The public is invited to attend.
City officials said the event will provide an opportunity for residents to gather in remembrance and reflection. A proclamation will be presented in Metayer Bowen’s honor, and local dignitaries are expected to share remarks recognizing her life and service.
Tamarac leaders expressed condolences and reflected on her legacy.
“Deeply saddened by the shocking and tragic death of Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer,” Mayor Michelle J. Gómez said. “Heartfelt condolences to her family, loved ones, and the Coral Springs community. She was compassionate, inspiring, and unwavering in her commitment to make the world better.”
Vice Mayor Marlon Bolton described Metayer Bowen as a “remarkable leader and dedicated public servant,” adding that she “led with grace, served with purpose, and inspired those around her every day.”
Commissioner Morey Wright also extended condolences, while Commissioner Krystal Patterson said Metayer Bowen’s life “was a testament to service, strength, and sisterhood.” Commissioner Dr. Kicia Daniel called her “a compassionate leader whose kindness and commitment to her community leave a lasting legacy.”
The City of Tamarac said Metayer Bowen’s impact will be felt for years to come and extended condolences to her family, friends, colleagues and the Coral Springs community.
