A mother faces child abuse charges after her daughter’s school reported visible injuries later found to have been the result of repeated whipping with a phone charging cable.
On Monday, April 28, a Lauderhill police officer responded to a residence in the city following a referral from the Florida Department of Children and Families. DCF Investigators initiated the call after receiving a report from the child’s school in Wilton Manors regarding possible abuse.
Upon arrival, records show officers and the investigator contacted the child’s mother, Glelune Madin, 44, of Lauderhill, who allowed officials to speak with her daughter.
According to the report, the officer observed several lacerations measuring two to four inches in length on the child’s left cheek and chin.
When asked how she got the injuries, the child told officials her mother had caused them by “whooping” her. She explained that her mother frequently used a phone charging cable to hit her.
When asked whether she felt safe at home, the child initially replied, “kind of,” but later stated that she did not feel safe and feared she would be “getting a whooping” once they left.
In response to the child’s statements and visible injuries, DCF investigators recommended that the child be immediately removed from the residence.
While being questioned by law enforcement, Madin initially denied knowing how her daughter sustained the injuries. However, she admitted to using both a belt and a phone charging cord to discipline her daughter.
“I whoop her with a belt. I even whoop her with the phone cord if I can’t find the belt, yeah, I do,” Madin reportedly told officers. She later acknowledged that the visible facial injuries could have resulted from a “whooping” the night before.
Madin was arrested and transported to the Broward Sheriff’s Office Main Jail. She was later released after posting a $10,000 bond.
The child has been removed from the home pending further investigation and custody arrangements.
