Several Tamarac businesses received complaints about not following precautions put in place by the Center for Disease Control in the wake of the Coronavirus outbreak.
As of August 14, the county has received 71 complaints about businesses located in Tamarac. They received citations for violations ranging from disobeying orders to those not taking required measures that would allow proper social distancing.
In addition to the Tamarac complaints, Lauderhill has received 46 complaints in the same amount of time, while North Lauderdale has received 99.
The Tamarac complaints are broken down into three categories; Pending Inspection (2), Resolved Complaints (32), and Warning Issued (37). All businesses that receive a complaint have the right to a fair inspection, and the database remains fluid and is continuously updated to reflect new information that is collected.
Back in July, we updated readers on the number of warnings that had been issued up until that date. Since then, three new businesses in Tamarac have been issued warnings as the result of complaints received.
All Sports Kids, located at 7081 Northwest 88th Avenue, received a warning on August 8, alleging that both employees and contractors working in the location were not wearing face coverings.
Boston Market, located at 5815 North University Drive, received a warning on August 6. According to the complaint, employees were observed not wearing masks, and tables were not being cleaned after customers left.
McDonald’s, located at 8375 North Pine Island Road, received a warning on August 8. Alleged were employees not wearing masks, including cooks who were seen handling food.
In Lauderhill, 11 warnings have been issued in August alone, with one warning resulting in a citation.
Also mentioned in the citation report is that the store is failing to take measures to ensure social distancing is taking place in the store.
Of the 11 warnings issued in August to businesses in Lauderhill, two were issued to Rotana Hookah Cafe, located at 5436 North University Drive. According to the complaints, the cafe was observed being opening late into the early morning hours serving alcohol to groups of 75-100 people.
One complaint indicated when the owner was asked why he remained open, he responded that “he has a connection with the county, so he is allowed to stay open.”
Tijuana Flats, located at 7942 West Commercial Boulevard, received a warning on August 12. The complaint claims that every ‘Taco Tuesday” customers who are not wearings masks line up at the door waiting to enter, and no social distance measures are being enforced.
In North Lauderdale, 16 complaints have been resolved since August 1, with four complaints still pending inspection.
