After eluding capture for several months, a man has been charged with burglary involving a deadly weapon in connection with a home invasion incident.
On March 26, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office apprehended Chris Williams, 21, of Lauderhill, after a warrant was issued for his arrest following an incident of burglary, battery, and aggravated assault with a firearm.
The arrest stems from a crime that allegedly took place on August 26, when a woman reported to law enforcement a terrifying break-in to her home.
According to the report, at approximately 2:30 a.m. on the night of the break-in, the victim told deputies that she was sleeping in her closet for safety due to a previous verbal altercation with Williams, who she claimed said she needed to “watch out,” for him.
The victim told deputies that while sleeping, two masked men, one of whom she identified as Williams due to his voice and 6’5’’ height, entered her residence through an unlocked kitchen window.
The victim recounted her attempt to escape to her bathroom but was forcibly pushed to the floor by Williams, who demanded the whereabouts of her sister.
Under duress, she was coerced into unlocking her phone, which Williams then used to attempt contact with her cousin. Frustrated, Williams allegedly stole her iPhone before fleeing the scene through the same window he broke in.
The crimes continued later that night when an unauthorized CashApp transaction of $257 was conducted from the victim’s stolen phone, adding financial theft to the list of offenses.
The breakthrough in the case came when deputies found a match between Williams’s fingerprints and those lifted from the scene, solidifying his involvement.
On March 26, Williams was taken into custody and transported to the Broward County Main Jail, where he is currently held on a $75,000 bond.
