39 Tamarac Businesses Receive Complaints for not Following COVID-19 Precautions

By Ryan Yousefi

Several Tamarac businesses were reported for not following precautions put in place by the Center for Disease Control in the wake of the Coronavirus outbreak.

As of July 17, the county has received 39 complaints about businesses located in Tamarac. They received citations for violations ranging from disobeying orders to those not taking required measures that would allow proper social distancing.

Earlier this month, we covered complaints and citations stemming from June. Since then, the database has updated for July.

Most recently, University Fitness, located at 7166 North University Drive, was issued a warning citation on July 15 after a complaint was reviewed and deemed valid.

According to the complaint, employees in the club were not wearing masks, including the owner, and members were not obeying the six-foot social distancing guidelines while working out. The complaint also mentions members not wearing masks in areas they were unable to socially distance themselves from others.

A warning citation was also issued to Blackbelt Center located at 10034 West McNab Road after a similar complaint was made regarding members of the center not adhering to social distancing guidelines. The complaint also mentioned a lack of facial coverings in the center, although it is not clear if this portion of the complaint was about the members or the staff.

A Wendy’s located at 7025 North University Drive received a warning citation on June 13 after a customer filed a complaint that included the specific name of a drive-thru attendant that wasn’t wearing her mask correctly.

According to the citation, the employee had a mask on but was purposefully wearing it below her nose as she attended to customers.

On June 15, Bermuda Club Condominium, located at 6299 NW 57th Street, received a warning citation after residents complained maintenance workers that attend to the building were not wearing masks.

In neighboring Lauderhill, 15 warning citations have been filed to date. One complaint that resulted in a warning citation came after customers claimed that none of the workers at the UPS Store located at 4846 North University Drive, even as the location has multiple signs that read “No Mask, No Service.”

If you believe a business is not complying with emergency orders or CDC guidelines, you can submit a complaint to the City of Tamarac online form or call the Business Hotline 954-344-5772.
