A Tamarac man was arrested after deputies say he assaulted his teenage stepson, threatened to kill him, and then held a gun to his own head while repeatedly pulling the trigger and saying he would kill himself.
According to a Broward County Sheriff’s Office arrest affidavit, on October 19, deputies responded to a residence located near the 5200 block of Island Club Drive after receiving a frantic 911 call from a juvenile who said his stepfather was “going to murder me and then kill himself.”
Deputies say the caller, who ran to a nearby liquor store to call for help, could be heard crying and begging the store clerk to “lock the door.” The dispatcher noted the fear in the boy’s voice as he pleaded for help.
When deputies arrived, they established a perimeter around the home and tried calling the suspect, identified as Biodun Michael Spencer Fadahunsi, 57, but he refused to answer or come outside.
After several loudspeaker announcements from patrol cars, Fadahunsi eventually exited the residence and was taken into custody.
According to the report, the chaos began earlier that evening, after the family returned home from church. The victim’s mother told deputies that Fadahunsi had been “very short” with her son throughout the day and that tensions escalated into an argument in the dining and living room area.
During the argument, the victim told investigators that Fadahunsi “hit me in the face multiple times,” prompting him to push his stepfather away in self-defense. The situation worsened when Fadahunsi allegedly stormed off to his bedroom, where he began making death threats.
The report quotes the victim as saying his stepfather shouted, “I’m going to murder him and then kill myself.” Moments later, the teen said he heard “the sound of shell casings dropping” from inside the bedroom.
The mother told deputies she went into the room and found Fadahunsi “lying down against the bed with a gun to his head, pulling the trigger over and over again,” hearing “a clicking sound” as he repeatedly tried to fire the weapon. She then screamed for her son to get out of the house and call 911, fearing he might witness a suicide.
Deputies later recovered a handgun and a loaded magazine; additional ammunition and a holster were found in Fadahunsi’s nightstand, the report said.
Fadahunsi was arrested and charged with multiple felonies, including child abuse and assault with a deadly weapon. He was transported to the Broward County Jail.
