An Amazon employee faces grand theft charges after management discovered she had stolen more than $10,000 worth of electronics from warehouse robots.
On August 25, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Amazon warehouse located at 6901 Hiatus Road in Tamarac amid allegations by management that an employee had been discovered to have been the culprit behind a string of recent product thefts.
According to records, the employee, later identified as Cadila Hinds, 26, of North Lauderdale, was caught stealing a significant amount of electronics valued at over $10,000 following an internal investigation into thefts occurring within the warehouse.
Amazon loss prevention agents eventually collaborated with detectives from BSO to discover crucial information that led to fingering Hinds as the suspect.
According to reports, Hinds had been systematically stealing high-value electronics, including iPads, Apple Watches, Airpods, Samsung Tablets, and other undisclosed items by removing them from a distribution robot and hiding them in the donation area within the warehouse.
Later, she would return to retrieve the stolen goods, remove them from their packaging, and conceal them under her clothing.
On August 25, during her break, Hinds was observed concealing items and attempting to exit the warehouse. She was stopped and subsequently questioned by Amazon’s Human Resources and Loss Prevention teams.
Hinds confessed to her thefts during questioning and provided the stolen packaging as evidence in anticipation of law enforcement’s arrival.
The estimated value of the items stolen by Hinds amounted to $10,167.97. This amount determined with the help of Hinds, who cooperated with authorities and consented to a search of her vehicle where three Apple Watch Series 8 41mm were discovered under the passenger front seat, still in their original packaging.
Following her arrest, detectives conducted a video-recorded interview in which Hinds admitted to stealing the property, concealing it on her person, and leaving the warehouse. She also confessed to selling several other stolen iPads and Airpods to a contact in Jamaica, resulting in a profit of $6,000.
Hinds also admitted to having additional stolen property at her residence in the City of North Lauderdale and signed a Consent to Search form, granting BSO deputies access to retrieve the stolen items.
Hinds was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail, where she was later released after posting a $1,000 bond.
