Amazon Inc. is coming to Tamarac.
The global commerce giant recently finalized a deal to lease a 178,240-square foot warehouse building in Tamarac Commerce Park, just north of City Furniture along the Sawgrass Expressway, city spokesperson Eunicia Baker confirmed Wednesday.
The warehouse will become what Amazon calls a Sub-Same Day fulfillment center, facilities located near customers which help the company quickly deliver products, usually within 5 hours of ordering.
Amazon has invested about $25 million in the new facility, which is scheduled to open later this summer, with a target of late July, Baker confirmed.
Tamarac Mayor Michelle J. Gomez said the deal would bring a host of economic benefits to the city.
“We are delighted to welcome Amazon and 100 new full-time jobs to Tamarac’s Commerce Park,” said Gomez. “The positive economic impact that new investment and job creation bring to Tamarac is vital to the continued growth and success of our thriving community. We look forward to partnering with Amazon in the years to come as the newest member of our business community.”
The new Amazon jobs will pay a minimum starting wage of $15 an hour and come with comprehensive benefits.
Plans for a hiring fair are in the works.
Owen Torres, an Amazon spokesperson, declined comment on the deal.
In response to an email inquiring about the new fulfillment center, Torres said: “We are always exploring new ways to enhance our customer experience.”
