Aquatic Center Announces Closure on First Day Open

By Selene Raj

On the same day the Caporella Aquatic Center was scheduled to reopen, the City of Tamarac announced that it will be closing again for the next two weeks.

A previous emergency order had allowed the aquatic center to reopen on July 6, with a maximum of 30 occupants at a time, following social distancing guidelines.

Several classes and swim sessions were planned each day, however, just a few hours after announcing that the pool was now open, the city said they were closing “in an abundance of caution”.

This comes as Florida continues to break records for COVID-19 cases each day, and Miami-Dade County has begun another round of closures for gyms and restaurants.

The pool closure will be re-evaluated during the week of July 20, at which point the city will decide to stay closed or plan for reopening.
