The next Groove on the Grass is on Friday, May 3, featuring “Start Me Up” Band. Enjoy this high-energy tribute to the Rolling Stones from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Tamarac Park (7501 N. University Dr.). There’ll be food trucks on site for you to grab a bite and remember to bring your favorite blanket or comfy lawn chair.
On Saturday, May 4, you can safely dispose of unneeded electronics and household hazardous waste for free. The east gate of the Tamarac Public Services building (6011 Nob Hill Rd.) will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to accept drop-offs. Proof of residency (driver’s license or utility bill) is required. Come out and celebrate the unveiling of “Sunset Hammock,” a public art installation in Sunset Point Park (11000 W. McNab Rd.), on May 8 at 9:30 a.m. Designed by Margi Glavovic Nothard, the piece underscores the Everglades’ ecological importance with a red aluminum walkway, a community periscope, and a gathering area for learning and engagement. This project symbolizes the Everglades’ role in South Florida’s ecosystem. And speaking of public art, stay tuned for the Social Justice Wall ribbon cutting at Tamarac Village!
The next Movie in the Park features “The Goonies” on Friday, May 10, at the Tamarac Sports Complex (9901 NW 77th St.). This Movie is a must-see family favorite that you won’t want to miss! Bring your favorite snacks, lawn chairs, and blankets. Kids’ activities begin at 6:30 p.m. with inflatables, face painting, food trucks, and a DJ. The Movie starts at 8:00 p.m. sharp.
Ready for spring cleaning? Join Sheriff Gregory Tony and the Broward Sheriff’s Office for Operation Medicine Cabinet and Shred-A-Thon in Tamarac on Saturday, May 11. The event is from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Kings Point North Lot (7620 Nob Hill Rd.). Bring your unused, unwanted, or expired prescription medicine for safe disposal and receive a $5.00 gift card while supplies last. Just remember, NO needles or sharps will be collected, and gift cards will only be given when turning in prescription medication. To keep yourself safe from identity theft, you may bring up two (2) boxes of sensitive documents per vehicle to safely have shredded. Boxes can be NO larger than 16″L x 12″W x 12″H.
Like to dance away the calories as if no one is watching? Well, then, you will enjoy the next Move with the Mayor’s Beat Burners class at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 17, at the Tamarac Community Center (8601 W. Commercial Blvd.). At the same time and location on Thursday, June 6, join us as we connect our mind and body through Yoga!

Living in Florida, the beautiful weather draws many of us outdoors year-round. Saturday, May 18, is the perfect time to learn or be reminded about water safety. Come out to our Pirate Plunge and Safety Sail event at the Caporella Aquatic Center (9300 NW 58th St.). This free event will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Come for a morning of water activities, safety tips, swimming techniques, and survival basics, then enjoy the pool, sprayground and slide. Please join us as we unveil our next panel of our Veterans Honor Wall and commemorate the lives of our brave service members at our annual Memorial Day Ceremony at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 27, at the Tamarac Veterans Park (7825 Southgate Blvd.). We’ll be joined by local veterans and guest speakers as we pay tribute to the countless individuals who sacrificed their lives for our nation.

- Food distributions continue every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., or while supplies last, at the South Florida Global Methodist Church, 6501 W. Commercial Blvd.
- Don’t miss Food Truck Fridays, held on the last Friday of every month between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. at the Tamarac Community Center, 8601 W. Commercial Blvd. Stop by with the family and choose from various delicious food vendors. There’ll be lots of fun, music, and games for everyone to enjoy!
- Ready for fresh produce, delicious bites, pet treats, artisanal goodies, and more? Come by the Tamarac Community Farmer’s Market at Tamarac’s Veterans Park, 8501 N. University Dr., every Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
