Fall is upon us! There are many great events to mark the change. Some of the highlights include our Stanley Cup Champion Florida Panthers are ready to drop the puck and raise a second Stanley Cup Championship banner as the new season starts, Broward County will host Brazil Expo Florida, or if you need a break enjoy cooler weather at our parks and beaches. These options and more are ready for you! For a complete list of events (large and small) check out visitlauderdale.com and Go Panthers!
Important news from the Broward County Commission dais! For the first time in many years, the commission successfully lowered the property tax millage rate during the final budget hearing in September. I have advocated for tax relief to help residents throughout Broward County for many years. By sharpening our pencils, we were able to eliminate over 150 unfilled positions. This tax decrease will not impact present service levels. The budget provides the largest dollar allotment in Broward County history for public safety and affordable housing! Property taxpayers deserve relief, and I am proud to move this issue forward for all Broward residents.
October is the beginning of the “Arts Season” in Broward County. The kickoff event, “Arts Launch Broward”, will be hosted at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. It will feature live music and dance performances, artist showcases, community networks, and information on exhibits, concerts, and festivals. This event will also be held in conjunction with the City of Fort Lauderdale’s Sunday Jazz Brunch. Come out and enjoy a great Sunday on October 5th. For more information visit Broward.org/arts.
This month, I will be attending the Washington summit as a delegate for the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce. Issues discussed include projects such as the Port Everglades deepening and widening project, the South Florida flood control system, and pediatric healthcare access. I look forward to speaking with elected officials and stake holders to make sure Broward County and District 3 are represented.
Finally, whether you are enjoying a spooky (but not scary) Halloween, or the traditions of Octoberfest, please do so responsibly. Please remember not to drink and drive and enjoy these holidays. For all who celebrate I also wish an easy fast to those observing Yom Kippur.
