April means spring is officially here. April 22 is Earth Day and this year the theme is “Invest in Our Planet.”
Recognizing Earth Day reminds our community of the necessity to protect the environment for generations to come. By reducing our carbon footprint, we can protect our home planet. We should focus on infrastructure that doesn’t just think about today but plans for tomorrow. From planting trees, riding bicycles, or participating in a beach clean-up, every action counts. Let’s invest in our planet’s future!
In March, the Broward County Commission held its annual board retreat to assess County priorities from across all agencies. We received reports on the future of Broward Parks, continued strategies to protect the environment, and infrastructure projects funded through the transportation surtax.
As Mayor of Broward County and your Commissioner, I am focused on Broward County providing the best services for residents in a financially responsible manner. I am continuously working with County Administration, my colleagues on the Commission and all stakeholders to build a sustainable future that benefits all residents.
Want to take a walk, or a boat ride, into the wild?
As Mayor, I’ve made it a mission to visit every Broward County Park and they are all unique and amazing. If you have heard the news lately, the federal government is making a huge investment in the future of the Everglades by providing significant funds for restoration. Go explore Everglades Holiday Park to get a firsthand view of this natural beauty and check out the airboat tours!
Are you ready to hit the beach? From April 8-10, Broward County will be hosting the Tortuga Music Festival, one of our signature events held at Fort Lauderdale Beach.
This event brings some of the biggest acts in the country and rock music right to our backyard. For those attending, please remember to keep our beaches clean as we share these spaces with our wildlife. So, grab your cowboy hat, sunscreen, and a beach towel and hit the sand for some fun and memories you will never forget.
Finally, I would like to wish a very Happy Easter and Passover to all who celebrate. Whether participating in a community egg hunt or enjoying family around the seder table, let’s all enjoy time with our loved ones and the blessings that we have received.
The top priority in my office is that we stay in contact with the residents of District 3 and Broward County. We are available by phone, email, and social media. Reach me at MUdine@Broward.org or at my office at 954-357-7003. On social media, you can find me on CommissionerMichaelUdine and @MichaelUdine on Twitter or Instagram to receive important updates and see what’s happening in our community. Let’s connect!
