Santa Claus isn’t the only one fulfilling children’s Christmas wishes this holiday season. After an unfortunate incident, three deputies made one family’s dream come true.

On December 14, the Broward Sheriff’s Office Tamarac District responded to the IHOP located at 6101 North University Drive.

Sade Green, of Lauderhill Lakes, explained she had left her wallet at the restaurant the day before. She called to see if any employees had found a wallet, and the manager said no. However, he later called Green back to say they had indeed found the wallet.

When Green arrived at IHOP to retrieve her wallet, it was missing the $400 in cash she had saved to purchase Christmas presents for her three daughters ages 1, 5, and 11.

BSO Sergeant Herbert, and Deputies Ryan and Ceballos could see how devastated Green appeared to be.

“They asked how old my girls were, and if I was a single mom,” said Green.

After filing the report, the deputies decided among themselves to take it one step further. Green said they called her and said they wanted to do something for her three girls.

They collected money from the department to purchase toys for the family, including a bike, a ride-on car for her youngest, babydolls, Barbies, and LOL gifts for her oldest.

Green was unaware of their efforts to help until December 19, when they surprised her and her three kids with the gifts.

“They got them everything,” said Green, “I’m still amazed.”

When the deputies first arrived at IHOP, Green said she didn’t think they would get any results, and she is beyond thankful for the way they handled her situation so thoroughly.

The deputies spent over an hour and a half watching the footage from the security cameras, trying to determine what happened with her wallet. Currently, there is an open investigation.

Green said she is very grateful for the compassion BSO had and everything that they did for her.

“I haven’t seen anything like this in a long time; there are no words to express my gratitude.”
