The Broward Sheriffs’ Office is investigating a rash of recent vehicle break-ins and auto crimes committed in Tamarac, agency records show.
A string of car break-ins and thefts led to costly property losses for a number of victims, records show.
On Jan. 25, a gray 2015 Lexus ES350 was stolen on Buckeye Court in Banyon Lakes sometime after 4:56 p.m., the BSO crime summaries show.
A few hours later, around 7:20 p.m., a vehicle was stolen on Treehouse Lane, deputies said. The victim told investigators he had left his car running in front of his apartment for a few minutes, then returned to discover the vehicle missing.
Another Jan. 25 vehicle break-in happened overnight on Northwest 54th Lane, costing the owner about $742 in lost property, according to BSO. Deputies said that no forced entry was made into the vehicle since the vehicle was left unlocked.
Information about the victim’s stolen property was not provided.
The next day, Jan. 26, deputies responded to an overnight car burglary on Northwest 65th Street, which cost the victim an estimated $199 in stolen property.
“I canvassed the area and located multiple vehicles that were burglarized as well,” a BSO deputy wrote.
That same night, on Southgate Boulevard, an unidentified culprit entered a victim’s vehicle at a Tamarac park and stole a loaded firearm from the glove compartment, as well as a wallet from the center console, according to BSO, costing the victim an estimated $646 in stolen property.
Also, on Jan. 26, on Madison Avenue, someone stole a red Infiniti QX60. Around the same time, on Northwest 72nd Street, deputies responded to a call about two vehicles that were burglarized, leading to about $1,600 in losses for their owners, records show.
The break-ins continued on Jan. 27, when a victim’s car was stolen on Sands Point Boulevard sometime overnight, deputies said.
That same evening, on Rock Island Road, a caller told BSO unknown culprits broke into her white 2019 Infinity Q60 by smashing the passenger side door, according to BSO records.
Nothing of value was removed from the car, deputies said.
On Lagos De Campo Boulevard, a victim’s electronic vehicle sensing system worth $1,500 was stolen from the front grill of their black Honda Accord during the same period, according to BSO.
The next day, Jan. 28, on Beechfern Circle, a victim’s vehicle was stolen while parked in his driveway.
Deputies said that the auto thief also ran into the victim’s other vehicle, parked on the street, while fleeing the scene.
On Isles Circle that same night, a victim parked her vehicle in her driveway and went to sleep. She woke up to find it missing, deputies said.
According to the records, multiple other vehicles were also burglarized or stolen overnight.
It was not clear from the records whether any of the cases were related.
