BSO Seeks Information Surrounding Fatal Shooting of 13-Year-Old in North Lauderdale

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help locating a suspect who shot and killed a 13-year-old girl on August 21.

The victim, identified in a BSO press release as Samyiah James, 13, of North Lauderdale, was reportedly shot near the 7400 block of Southwest 12th Court around 10:42 p.m. by an unknown suspect. 

According to the Broward County Regional Communications, law enforcement authorities received a distress call reporting gunshots fired nearby the area. Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived to discover young James with multiple gunshot wounds.

Deputies began immediate life-saving efforts, and North Lauderdale Fire Rescue was summoned to provide additional medical assistance. Sadly, Samyiah James was pronounced deceased at 11:31 p.m.

In the wake of the incident, the Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Unit has announced it is conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. As of this writing, the suspect(s) responsible for the shooting remains unknown.
