Veterans’ Park in Tamarac {Sharon Aron Baron}
Chabad Jewish Center of Tamarac will bring Rosh Hashanah traditions outdoors with a free community gathering at Veterans Park.
Shofar in the Park will take place at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13, giving families and community members a chance to celebrate the Jewish New Year outside a traditional synagogue service.
The family-friendly event will include the sounding of the shofar, the traditional Tashlich ceremony, holiday songs, apples and honey, honey cake and children’s activities.
“Rosh Hashanah is a time for every Jewish person to feel connected, no matter their background or how often they attend synagogue,” said Rabbi Kopel Silberberg, director of Chabad Jewish Center of Tamarac. “We want to bring the spirit of the holiday right into the community and give everyone the opportunity to hear the shofar, participate in Tashlich and welcome the New Year together in a warm and meaningful way.”
Goldy Silberberg, co-director of the center, said organizers also want children to feel personally connected to the holiday.
“When kids can hear the shofar, sing, enjoy the traditional foods and participate in activities made especially for them, it gives them a positive and meaningful connection to the holiday,” she said.
The outdoor program is designed to provide a relaxed, welcoming and accessible celebration for adults and children, including those who may not otherwise attend traditional synagogue services.
Veterans Park is at the corner of University Drive and Southgate Boulevard in Tamarac. The event is open to the community and free to attend.
