The Chabad Jewish Center of Tamarac is hosting a street fair for children in anticipation of the upcoming High Holidays.
Held on Sunday, August 27, from 2.30 to 4.30 p.m., the event is part of the C Kids Club, an immersive learning program for kids ages 4 -12. Parents can pay $15 per session or $90 for the entire year, which includes seven events.
Rabbi Koppel Silberberg said each stall at the indoor event is designed to mimic a classic street fair and will feature a hands-on activity connected to Rosh Hashanah celebrations.
“Children will have the opportunity to bake their own challah in the traditional round shape, craft artisanal pomegranate salsa, design custom Shana Tovah cards, and taste-test an array of symbolic holiday foods,” he added.
In keeping with the New Year’s custom, each child can create a resolution for the coming year and craft a customized magnet to remind them of their intent. Every guest will get a take-home treat – a “snackle” box filled with goodies.
“Our goal at Chabad is not only to teach children the facts about Judaism but to inspire them with the joy and fulfillment of living Jewishly,” said Goldy Silberberg, Co-Director at Chabad Jewish Center of Tamarac.
She added that Rosh Hashanah Street Fair lets children experience the excitement and fun of Jewish traditions and understand how ancestral practices – some thousands of years old – have personal relevance and meaning in their modern lives today.
Rabbi Silberberg said the fair’s “Shofar Game Show” will bring a new twist to how the traditional ram’s horn is used. The children will compete for prizes using their newly-gained knowledge about the Rosh Hashanah holiday.
“Every Jewish child in Tamarac is welcome to join the fair and celebration,” said Rabbi Silberberg.
