Along with several other cities, Tamarac has now issued a stay-at-home order, as well as new guidelines for essential businesses to operate.
The order states that each resident is ordered to stay home within the entirety of their owned or rented property, with limited exceptions. This comes after Broward County issues a Safer-at-Home order, urging residents to stay at home.
Residents, unless permitted through an exception, are no longer allowed to travel on the city’s streets, sidewalks, canals, or within the boundaries of the city.
Exceptions include travel to essential businesses such as grocery stores and hospitals, emergency assistance, personal support activities, outdoor recreational activities, religious activities, government and emergency personnel going to work, and public transit for the activities above.
Residents are also required to practice social distancing when in public places, refraining from shaking hands, covering their coughs, and staying six feet away from others.
Essential businesses are also affected in this order — while allowed to stay open; they are required to now screen employees for international travel, or travel to places like New York and New Jersey, or those who have attended gatherings of over 50 people or have symptoms of COVID-19. If employees answer yes to any of those questions, the order mandates that they prohibit the employee from entering the premises, as recommended by the CDC.
There are also new cleaning protocols for essential businesses that wish to remain open, including providing disinfectant wipes for shopping carts, hourly disinfecting, and ensuring that no more than ten people, including employees, are present at any area of the business at one time.
The order goes into effect at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, March 28.
