With Tight Deadline, the City of Tamarac Seeks Emergency Interim Legal Services

By Selene Raj

After the events that led to City Attorney Sam Goren and his firm’s resignation, the city commission is searching for a law firm to serve in the interim until a permanent replacement is found.

With the holidays quickly approaching and several commissioners declaring themselves unavailable to work throughout, a deadline is quickly approaching.

After a special meeting on Monday deciding how to move forward, the commission decided to seek outside counsel rather than an in-house attorney and request Letters of Interest from qualified firms. They agreed that whichever firm provides interim legal services will not be permitted to apply for or be chosen to provide permanent legal services.

This might mean a smaller pool of applicants for the interim services, but the commission hopes to move forward on an accelerated timeline nonetheless.

Letters of Interest must be submitted by 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 17. If all goes as planned, the city hopes to find a replacement before the end of the year.
