Shaker Village Clubhouse {Tam-A-Gram}
Tamarac will soon have a new recreation facility at Eastside Community Park.
During the June 10 meeting, the commission voted 4-1 to approve a resolution awarding a $12,192,855 contract to EU International for the design and construction of the Eastside Community Park project.
The project site is a 2.35-acre city-owned lot at Shaker Village, located at 5699 W. Commercial Boulevard. The development will include a multi-story community center, a walking path with benches, a pavilion, a tennis court, a basketball court, a covered playground, an observation deck, a fishing pier, a digital informational kiosk sign, and a security system, according to city information.
Mayor Michelle J. Gomez cast the lone vote against the contract. She said that because the city administration does not know how much money it could lose if voters approve the property tax amendment in November, the commission should not approve a large building project. Gomez also said the city should focus on building a new water treatment plant to replace the aging one.
